A terrified family from Hednesford, Staffordshire were forced to evacuate their home after finding hundreds of potentially deadly spiders in a bunch of bananas. Dad, Jamie Roberts, spotted that the bananas, which has been purchased from a local shop had white patches covering them and on closer inspection found that they were infested with hundreds of spiders.
Mr Roberts and his wife, Crystal called pest control who advised the family to vacate their home immediately. The couple, along with their two young children Georgina and Joshua left their house as pest controllers started the 24 hour fumigation process.
The family were only allowed back into their home three days later after the toxic fumes used by the pest controllers to kill the spiders had been cleared.
Mr Roberts, who works as a civil servant told the press, “It was terrifying and especially for me because I have a phobia of spiders.
“We bought the bananas from the local shop and there were in a fruit bowl on the window sill in the kitchen.
“One day I picked one up because it looked mouldy because it had patches of white on it.
“I knew something was wrong because then I noticed the white patches were all over the window sill and the curtains and I could see tiny legs and realised they were spiders.
“My wife and I rang the shop where we bought them and they asked us to drop them round to them.
“When we did they called pest control and they told us to get out of the house.”
The family are waiting to find out whether the spiders were the deadly Brazilian Wandering Spider from pest control.
