YOUR IDENTITY
Mark 8:29-8:29
"What about you he asked "Who do you say I am?" Peter said "You are the Messiah". (Mark 8:29).
Jesus is interested in our knowledge about him. He yearns to hear us declare our understanding of His personality. What will be your answer, when you hear the Lord say to you "who do you say I am?". Would you describe him according to your experiences or according to His Word. What will be your answer to the dying world, when they ask you "Who is Jesus?" A personal revelation from The Spirit on the person of Jesus makes all the difference in your walk of faith.
The Word "Messiah" simply means "Anointed One". When Peter said "You are the messiah" He unraveled the completeness of who Jesus is. To be anointed means to be selected for a mission, empowered to fulfill a divine purpose.
What Mission was that? What purpose could it be? The Lord of glory was willing to come down to earth and take our place for the punishment for our wrong. Could that be the only reason why he came down here. No! It was much more than that. For one can be forgiven and yet not transformed. That was the reason why the blood of animals that were sacrificed in the old testament was not working out. They were forgiven but not recreated.
He came to raise another specie of mankind, their origin is not of this world. Jesus says "they are not of the world even as I am not of the world" (John 17:16). Unlike the people of the Old testament, they don't need more sacrifices, for the blood of Christ on the cross hath birthed a new nature in them that is above sin, sickness and all the power of Satan.
They are now "...new creatures, old things have passed away and behold all things have become new..." ( 2 Cor. 5:17). They are "new creatures" and not "cleansed creatures".
When He was on the cross, It wasn't just to forgive our sins, No! It was much more than that. The scriptures declares "He shall see the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied..." (Isaiah 53:11) We the believers are the outcome of his travail. The prophet Isaiah declared concerning them saying "...Who can tell of his descendants, for he was cut off from the land of the living..." Yet it went further to say "...he shall see his descendants and his days shall be prolonged..." (Isaiah 53:8,10). If He was cut off from the land of the living, where then did his descendants came from. They were born from the dead. A higher life beyond the reach of darkness has been birthed. In the very corridors of death, a new life was produced. "...He is the first born from the death" (Colossian 1:18).
We are the descendants of the Most High. The scriptures declares "I said "ye are gods" And all of you are sons of the Most High" (Psalm 82:6). When Jesus walked the earth, he repeated the same words and said "...Is it not written in your law "ye are gods" (John 10:35).
We are the righteousness of God. The scriptures declares "for God made him who knew no sin, became sin that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus." (2 Corinthians . 5:21). NOTICE:- It never said "that we might be forgiven" but "that we might become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus".
The forgiveness of Sin is for the children of God who went astray and not for the unsaved. A sinner does not need forgiveness what he needs is recreation. The scriptures declares "My dear children am writing this to you, if any one sin, let him remember we have an advocate with the father, which is Christ the Lord" (1 John 2:1). NOTICE:- He was referring to believers "my dear children ..." they were already saved and that statement was not for the unsaved.
We are the display of God's Praise. The scriptures declares "This people have I formed for myself, they shall show forth my praise" (Isaiah 43:21). We are carefully built as a wonder, everything about the believer speaks of a miracle. God made us specially for the demonstration of his praise. When the world look at us, they just wonder as they in days that Christ walked the streets of Jerusalem.
The scriptures declares about us "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:" (1 Peter 2:9). There is no other so precious and so dear to the Father like the believer in Christ Jesus.
We are the light of the world, a city set upon the hill that cannot be hidden, no wonder the world is curious about us, down deep in their heart, a voice cries out saying "they is something about these people" They are busy trying to unravel one thing that is evil about us, but they find none, then they wonder "what kind of people are these. No! there must be something wrong about them" because the darkness in them cannot accept the reality of the new life in Christ.
The world can only see Jesus in us. We are His temple,His building, His expression to our world. "...don't you know your own self that Jesus Christ is in you?" (2 Cor. 13:5).
I believe that "law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus" that set us free "from the law of sin and death" is still very effective even today.
There is nothing that can withstand the "exceeding greatness of his power that worketh towards them that believe." (Eph. 1:19).
Jesus calls us "believers" because we have the ability to transcend the ordinary and walk in the supernatural. We hold within us the very nature of His word, we are the offspring's of His word. "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God." (1 Peter 1:23).
God wants us to be living epistles in demonstration daily, the word is now written in our heart, His power is still the same as it was in Christ.
We are living on the platform of the settled Word, In our heart is His Word and in our mouth a voice of thanksgiving saying "thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Cor. 15:57)
We are not afraid because we know "... for he has not given us the spirit of fear..."(2 Timothy 1:7) But when we feel the arrows of fear trying to invade our minds we simply yelled it out with the scripture " I am of God and have overcome them, because He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world." (1 John 4:4).
You now live in a higher realm of life, "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms"
(Ephesians 2:6-7). You are more than what the eyes can see. Refuse to bow down to the limits posed by circumstances, step up and live beyond the obstacles.
