President Goodluck Jonathan made sure his men bring ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to the wedding of his foster daughter which took place in Abuja on Saturday. The main agenda is politics, not the wedding.
But Obasanjo, as usual, arrived Abuja prepared. And when the time came, he gave it to them. The moves by the Presidency and the PDP to seek Obasanjo's support for the secret plot to make Jonathan rule Nigeria for a total of about 10years, reached a dead end in Abuja over the weekend.
Obasanjo told Jonathan and his men to do the right thing or forget about his support:
“The Presidency and the party have been talking with Obasanjo on the need to support Jonathan; but we have not made progress. Baba is still insisting that the issues he raised in his letter must be addressed.”This is what a member of the PDP Board of Trustees told Punch in Abuja.
It would be recalled Obasanjo had in a December 2, 2013, letter to Jonathan confirmed that he told him that he informed him that he will run for only one term after completing Yar'Adua's tenure. The governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswan also confirmed this information to Obasanjo.
Obasanjo's letter to Jonathan read in part, “I decided to cross-check with you. You did not hesitate to confirm to me that you are a strong believer in a one-term of six years for the President and that by the time you have used the unexpired time of your predecessor (the late Umaru Yar’Adua) and the four years of your first term, you would have almost used up to six years and you would not need any more term or time.”
An associate of Obasanjo and former National Auditor of PDP, Chief Bode Mustapha, said the issues raised by him had not been addressed. So, they should stop begging him but do the right thing and get his support.
